Hot on the heels of being named Northern Ireland's top tourist attraction by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, Titanic Belfast has celebrated its fifth birthday with a record-breaking year as the city's most lucrative leisure destination.
As reported by The Irish News, Titanic Belfast's chief executive, Tim Husbands, stated that "2016/17 was a really strong year. Not only did we have our busiest day ever in August 2016, with an increase in numbers from key markets including Britain, USA, China, France, Germany and Australia, but we were also crowned World's Leading Tourist Attraction at the prestigious World Travel Awards."
More than 82% of those who visited the attraction in 2016 were from outside Northern Ireland, with over 40% of all visitors asserting that Titanic Belfast represented the sole reason for their journey to Northern Ireland.
Over the course of the last half decade, Titanic Belfast has played host to a number of high-profile business and leisure events, including the Queen's Jubilee lunch, the G8 Summit Reception, NI Investment Conference with David Cameron and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
Titanic Belfast's head of business and leisure sales, Laura Cowan, declared that "There is no doubt that these signature events play a key role in our business development" due to the fact that "Many have been aired to millions of viewers, showcasing [the] city and driving footfall."
