Irish Food Service Businesses Confident of Growth in 2015

Some 80 per cent of Irish of firms in the foodservice sector believe their business can grow in 2015, according to a survey by Pallas Foods.

The survey, reported by the Irish Times, has been released to coincide with Catex, Ireland's largest and most influential foodservice event, taking place in the RDS n Dublin.

The survey also found that nearly half of the businesses planned to increase employment in 2015.

The gradual recovery of the economy, increased forward bookings for the holiday season as well as a wider choice of offerings were the main reasons for the encouragement among those surveyed.

While there was cause for optimism, the survey showed that a number of firms were still struggling due to the cost of running a business in Ireland, as well as increased competition.

Peter Foley, executive vice president of Pallas Foods, said: “Pallas Foods looks to 2015 with the same optimism and confidence of our customers. That confidence is based on the recovery that is happening but is also related to the rate of innovation and change that is happening in the sector, all of which is geared to meet the growing needs and sophistication of Irish consumers.”
