Hollywood icon Robert De Niro has plans to merge six historic buildings to create an 83 room hotel in Central London.
The Covenant Garden property, located yards from the Royal Opera House, will be called The Wellington Hotel and is to include a luxury spa, two restaurants and a central courtyard, according to Sky News.
De Niro said the construction will respect the history of Covenant Garden and plans to retain the historical facades, despite having to knock through six adjacent buildings.
The hotel work is scheduled for 2017 if approved and aims to be finished by 2019. The actor, who has launched several other hotels and restaurants, will be making this application a joint venture with UK property firm Capco and America's BD Hotel group.
The timing for the new hotel could prove ideal as TheCaterer.com has reported that London hotels have seen a 1.7% increase in demand this year.
