Zambrero Ireland will donate 120,000 meals this Saturday, 5 October, as part of its mission to help end world hunger through its Plate4Plate initiative.
As part of the initiative, the Mexican-inspired franchise is partaking in a global goal to donate 100 million meals by 2025 with its charity distribution partner, Rise Against Hunger.
With 26 locations across the country, Zambrero Ireland is rallying the community and asking volunteers to register at www.zambrero.ie and help pack up 120,000 meals on Saturday 5 October at St Mary’s College in Rathmines, Dublin.
It is making the call with the help of its sports ambassadors, Rugby Sevens star Terry Kennedy and Olympic sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley.
The goal for this year’s campaign is for over 500 students from St Mary’s College and 200 volunteers from the community to pack 120,000 meals, bringing the global donation figure close to 83 million.
It is the culmination of an entire year of donations by Zambrero in Ireland and around the world, as it pledges a meal to someone in need with every burrito or bowl purchased.
To strengthen the pledge even further this year, Zambrero has pledged that for all burritos and bowls sold on Saturday 5 October, it will double its donation.
This means for every meal sold, two meals will be donated.
‘Teamwork And Community Spirit’
Speaking about her involvement in the initiative, Mawdsley said, “I am delighted to support this brilliant cause once again and honoured to be a part of Zambrero’s efforts to combat global hunger.
“I’m really looking forward to working alongside the volunteers to get a record number of meals packed and ready to be distributed to those desperately in need.
“It is especially poignant around this time, as we mark World Food Day, and is a testament to the positive impact that teamwork and community spirit can have.”
Kennedy added, “I am a long-time fan of Zambrero as a restaurant, and I admire the goal of feeding people in need through the Plate4Plate campaign.
“It is a privilege to be part of this, and I’m really looking forward to getting my sleeves rolled up and getting to work.”
‘A Positive Imprint’
Darragh Fanning, general manager of Zambrero Ireland, said, “This is our third year of the initiative, and we have received such strong support from our community of customers and partners that our sights are set for even bigger numbers of meals in 2024.
“We are further supported this year by our brilliant ambassadors, Sharlene Mawdsley and Terry Kennedy, and we thank them for helping us to make an even bigger impact for those in need.
“We’ve just opened our 26th restaurant – in Little Island, Co. Cork – and, globally, the brand recently celebrated the opening of its 300th location, so our mission to have an impact on the issue of world hunger grows alongside our business, and while one meal may not change a life, 100 million meals globally will leave a positive imprint on the lives of people that we can get meals delivered to through our charity partners, Rise Against Hunger.
“We are so grateful to our customers, staff, suppliers, and community partners like St Mary’s College, who join us every year to make this a success.”
