Two New Irish Restaurants Awarded Michelin Stars

Two new restaurants have been awarded the prestigious Michelin Star, as the restaurant guide released its new Michelin Great Britain & Ireland Guide 2016 this week.

Eamonn O'Reilly's Greehouse on Dawson Street, Dublin and Enda McEvoy's Loam in Co. Galway are both new additions to the Michelin guide. Loam becomes the second restaurant in Galway to be awarded a star, after Aniar was awarded one in 2013.

There was bad news, however, for Dublin restaurants Thornton's and Bon Appétit, who both had their star removed by the guide. Thornton's, owned by celebrity chef Kevin Thornton, held the rating every year since 1996. Bon Appétit, situated in Malahide, has held it since 2008.

Previous winners Chapter One and L'Ecrivain in Dublin; Campagne and Lady Helen in Kilkenny; House in Waterford and Aniar in Galway all retained their one-star rating. Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud in Dublin remains the only two-star Michelin restaurant in Ireland.

There was also good news for seven Irish restaurants who received the Michelin Bib Gourmand for "good quality, good value cooking". Among the winners were Delahunt in Dublin and 1826 Adare in Co. Limerick.
