According to a new report by Capital Economics called "The Value of Delivery Services", which was commissioned by food delivery firm Deliveroo and surveyed Deliveroo's restaurant partners, the ability to provide delivery services from platforms such as Deliveroo protected approximately 1,000 jobs at Deliveroo's partner restaurants from being lost during the April to June period of this year.
The report also states that delivery services supported €25 million of turnover for Deliveroo's partner restaurants during the April to June period, and asserts, "Delivery services have helped to keep parts of the hospitality sector operating in a challenging environment, and the cost to government would have been even higher without them. They have helped to keep more people at work in the hospitality sector, which has been one of the hardest hit sectors from lockdown restrictions and changes in peoples' behaviour."
Additionally, the report states that Deliveroo generated an additional €64 million in revenue for the Irish economy during 2019/20, and that Deliveroo's operations in Ireland supported 860 jobs across the Irish economy in 2019/20, 250 of which were in small, independent restaurants and their supply chains, and 560 of which were in larger chain restaurants and their supply chains.

Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu commented, "Deliveroo has been proud to help restaurants to operate and support jobs during this difficult period. Delivery enables restaurants to sell meals to a wider customer base that they otherwise wouldn't be able to reach. As food delivery becomes an essential service, we will continue to improve our offer to customers, for example, by expanding our grocery range, as well as our service to restaurants."
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 350 restaurants in Ireland have partnered with Deliveroo for the first time to offer delivery services.
There are currently 1,800 Irish restaurants on the Deliveroo platform.
