Despite winning 'Hotel Restaurant of the Year' by The Food Awards Ireland 2016 and being recommended by the Michelin Guide, Donegal's Castle Murray House Hotel has had to close its bar and restaurant.
After being open for nearly 15 years, the 10-bedroom boutique hotel which overlooks McSwyne's Bay, decided to close its restaurant saying that "unfortunately the business is no longer viable" and that it "will be re-opening as a different concept during 2017 and we are very optimistic for the future".
The hotel had started its own polytunnel in 2014 to grow a variety of herbs and mixed oriental leaves for its bar and restaurant, ranging from purple basil to pak choi to apple mint as well as edible flowers, where it served dishes such as confit of chicken with poached hen egg and red wine just.
"We are so proud of what we have achieved over the years, with numerous awards and accolades. We have so many good memories in Castle Murray and we are deeply upset that we no longer can sustain this beautiful concept," commented its owners.
