Dublin City Council has granted Westridge Real Estate permission to construct a co-living development on the site of Kielys pub in the south Dublin suburb of Donnybrook.
Westridge Real Estate applied for planning permission last September to demolish Kielys pub and build a shared living complex that would include a restaurant and café on the site.
Now, as reported by The Irish Times, Westridge's planning permission application has been approved, and the company will demolish the pub and build a six-storey co-living development on the site.
The development was given the green light despite housing minister Darragh O'Brien's recent ban on co-living developments due to the fact that Westridge's planning permission application was submitted before the ban's formal introduction on December 22, 2020.
Development Details
The planned development has been designed by architecture firm Henry J Lyons and will include 91 co-living units that will be served by communal kitchens, and living and dining spaces on each floor.
The development will also include external terraces within a courtyard on its ground floor, roof terraces on its sixth and seventh floors, a screening room, a gym and significant co-working shared space as well as the aforementioned restaurant and café on its ground floor.
Occupiers of the development will be able to avail of "member-facing platforms" through their desktops and mobile phones which will allow them to make rent payments and service requests, and access concierge services among other activities. These platforms will also be used to promote "community engagement".
Westridge said that it will seek to offer accommodation at the development to medical staff and other essential workers due to its proximity to St. Vincent's Hospital and the Royal Hospital Donnybrook. The development is also likely to attract workers from nearby companies such as Amazon, Avalon, Facebook, Google and LinkedIn.
