Three popular bars have been handed a slap on the wrist by the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland (ASAI) for ads that appeared on their respective Facebook pages promoting drinks deals.
The Irish ads watchdog found that the bars in question broke rules that forbid them publishing ads that encourage 'excessive drinking', reports thejournal.ie.
The three bars in question are The Exchequer Wine Bar and Chelsea Drugstore in Dublin, and the The Library Bar in Limerick.
The ASAI made the call following complaints made by Alcohol Action Ireland.
The complaint against the Exchequer Wine Bar, located in Ranelagh, was in relation to a promotional ad on Facebook offering punters 'Bottomless Prosecco', while the ASAI deemed that a Library Bar ad featuring the phrase 'drink more' on a night out should also be pulled.
For the Chelsea Drugstore in Dublin, the complaint related to the following Facebook ad post:
'Here at The Chelsea Drugstore, we know that first glass of wine is for health benefits. All the glasses after that are for your witty comebacks and flawless dance moves. So why wait to wine down? Book your table today and bring your friends along. Let’s have an incredible evening together.'
