Dublin politician Louis Fitzgerald, who currently runs 21 pubs and two hotels, has applied for permission to develop a potential six-storey premises beside his Big Tree bar in Drumcondra for the purpose of providing accommodation for up to 161 students.
The Sunday Times reports that Fitzgerald believes the scheme could be beneficial for those studying at DIT's new Grangegorman campus among others. While the publican didn't divulge how much his proposed project would cost, it is known that it would encompass sites on both the North Circular Road and Dorset Street and would include an extension of the third floor of the Big Tree.
Fitzgerald is said to be hopeful that his proposal will be permitted by Dublin city council and he aims to push ahead with the development soon, assuming it's given the green light.
