New Wild Atlantic Way story panels have been installed at discovery points in Clare, adding to the photo points that were developed last year.
The panels feature local stories chosen as a result of consultation with local historians, heritage officers and other local experts. The installation of the panels is part of a wider initiative to bring local stories to the fore all across the route.
Speaking about the panels, Fáilte Ireland’s head of the Wild Atlantic Way, Fiona Monaghan explained: "The rationale for the panels is to provide visitors with local stories which will add layers to the Wild Atlantic Way experience and bring each location to life for tourists. A key part of this phase of our development of the Wild Atlantic Way project has been a close and productive partnership with local experts and historians as well as with the individual local authorities along the route."
Fáilte Ireland is also inviting local tourism businesses, community and tourism group members to help improve growth at Connemara and the Aran Islands by formulating a new visitor experience development plan for the area.
It's goal is to extend the tourism season as well as spreading business across all parts of Connemara and the Aran Islands, and follows the launch of a visitor experience plan for the Skellig Coast area.
Monaghan said: "Developing visitor experience plans is all about widening and deepening the current visitor experience in the area. This approach, which has already been piloted in the Skellig Region, seeks to increase visitor dwell time and revenue as well as help increase job creation in the local area. However, we cannot do it alone, and local consultation and input is essential if we are to develop a plan that not only works for the visitor, but also works for the local economy."
