Travel bible Lonely Planet has named western Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way and the north's Causeway Coastal route as two of the "world's ultimate road trips" in a new publication entitled Epic Drives of the World.
As reported by The Irish Independent, the book gives a rundown of 50 of the planet's best drives and ranks the two Irish routes alongside the likes of Australia's Great Ocean Road, Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh Road and Route 66 in the states.
A quote from the book describes the Wild Atlantic Way as "a dramatic procession of deserted beaches and towering cliffs where traditional music and ancient castles abound" and asserts that the Causeway Coastal Route "might just be the perfect day-tripping antidote to Belfast's urban core."
Both routes have been big boosters for tourism in their respective regions, with the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience along the Wild Atlantic Way having just recorded one million visitors for the fourth successive year, while filming locations for Game of Thrones along the Causeway Coastal Route are constantly attracting increasing numbers of tourists to Northern Ireland.
