Jet2 has announced that it plans to expand its operations out of Belfast International Airport with the addition of four new routes.
It plans to fly to Prague, Rome, Gran Canaria and Zante from next summer. The new routes will create 86 new jobs; with 39 based at the airport and 47 based in the air crew team. The airline will also add a third dedicated aircraft to the Belfast fleet to handle the extra capacity. The new jobs will also contribute £2.2 million annually in salaries.
The airline has received financial assistance from Invest NI, the Stormont Executive's business support agency, which helped to create the new ground staff positions.
Steve Heapy CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said that they were thrilled to be announcing major growth plans and that, "Our city break offering continues to expand with the introduction of Prague and Rome, plus the addition of Gran Canaria means holidaymakers now have a trio of Canary Island gems to choose from. What’s more we have introduced our first Greek hotspot – the stunning Island of Zante.
"These developments really demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing our loyal local customers with unrivalled choice and flexibility when it comes to planning their next well-earned break.
This is Jet2's tenth year of flying from Belfast International Airport and, having started with two destinations, it has now grown its destinations to 16.
