JD Wetherspoon is to open a 100-room hotel and pub at Camden Hall, Camden Street.
The UK pub chain will invest €4 million in the venture, and hopes to eventually have 30 outlets across the country. Camden Hall, which possesses planning permission for a 165-bedroom hotel, is at present a homeless hostel; JD Wetherspoon said it will be applying for revised planning and licensing permission for the hotel and pub shortly.
"We are pleased to have acquired this excellent building in the heart of Dublin," declared chairman Tim Martin. "Our aim is to build a pub and hotel on the site and we believe both will be assets to the city."
The firm contentiously dropped Ireland's biggest-selling draught beer, Heineken, as well as Murphy’s stout, after a disagreement about the supply of beer to its new Dún Laoghaire pub, the refurbished Forty Foot.
