Tulfarris Hotel Will Not Add 4.5% VAT Increase For 2019 Weddings

Co. Wicklow's Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort has announced that it will not put up its charges for couples who have already booked their wedding at the hotel and any new bookings for weddings held in 2019.

In October, the government announced changes to the VAT rate for the tourism sector increasing it from 9% to 13.5% with effect from January 1, 2019.

"Doing The Right Thing"

John O’Grady, general manager of Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort, said, "As the tourism sector has now lost its special VAT rate of 9%, most businesses will be passing the 4.5% increase on to their customers. However, we understand that most couples weren’t aware that this increase might happen. We appreciate that getting married can be an expensive time and many couples are working to a budget. We are very appreciative of the couples who chose Tulfarris as the destination for their big day and believe we are doing the right thing by not passing on the 4.5% VAT increase. We will honour the existing rates for both their wedding package and their accommodation block, and hope this will ease any concerns about rising costs for their venue."
