The Merrion Hotel, along with another five hotels in Ireland, have been named in the Best Hotels for Families by TripAdvisor's family travel site Family Vacation Critic.
The awards are based upon the views of site's own team of experts as well as user experiences. To qualify, the hotel must have received a four- or five-star editorial rating, and a 75+ per cent approval rating from families on the site and on TripAdvisor.
As well as the The Merrion, five other Irish hotels were listed in the 'Europe' category, out of a total of 20 hotels that met the criteria. More Irish hotels were named on the list than any other European country.
The Merrion came out on top, with 96 per cent of families recommending the five-star resort in Dublin. Family Vacation Critic recommends it for families because of its Merrion Kids programme, its convenient location and its kid-friendly on-site dining and room service.
The other Irish hotels included the Fitzwilliam and the Fitzpatrick Castle hotels in Dublin, Dromoland Castle in Co. Clare, Ashford Castle in Mayo and Castlemartyr in Co. Cork.
"These winners represent hotels that truly excel as family-friendly properties," explains Lissa Poirot, editor-in-chief of Family Vacation Critic on the website.
"Because awards are only given to hotels that receive a high rating from both our team of experts and family travellers who have stayed at the property, the Family Vacation Critic Favorite Hotels designation offers parents a credible stamp of approval to use when searching for the perfect hotel for their family."
