Supermac's founder Pat McDonagh is set to purchase the Athlone Springs Hotel for close to €4 million, bringing the total number of hotels in his portfolio to five.
Hitting the market at a price of €3.5 million last year, the 68-bedroom, four-star venue is located close to Athlone but actually lies in Co. Roscommon, with estate agent CBRE asserting it is trading profitably, as reported by The Times. The property includes a leisure centre, swimming pool, conference facilities and function rooms.
McDonagh, whose purchase of the hotel is subject to approval by the competition and consumer protection commission, also owns the Castletroy Park hotel of Co. Limerick, the Lough Rea hotel and spa of Co. Galway, the Killeshin hotel of Portloaise and the Charleville Park hotel of Co. Cork.
