CBRE has confirmed the sale of the Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club, in Cavan, to Brady Hotels Ireland Limited.
The commercial property services firm did not disclose the purchase price, but reports in the media suggest that the four-star hotel was sold for €30 million.
The Slieve Russell Hotel was once owned by Sean Quinn, formerly the wealthiest man in Ireland, before the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC) took it over in 2011.
The 224-bedroom hotel includes extensive banqueting and leisure facilities, together with a renowned PGA Championship golf course. The luxury venue has attracted some major golf tournaments over the years, hosting two European Tour events and the Irish PGA Championship. Additionally, since 1997, the venue also stages an annual PGA pro-am.
“It is a real honour to be the successful purchaser of this beautiful property,” said Tony Brady, of Brady Hotels Ireland Limited. “It has an outstanding golf course and a lovely hotel. The golf course has got PGA National status – the only such golf course in Ireland, and one of only a limited number of PGA courses in the world.”
The Slieve Russell Hotel features the Cranaghan and Woodford & Erne banqueting suites and attracts wedding business from a wide catchment area, both north and south of the border. The hotel has capacity to host national conferences with space for up to 1,000 delegates, with a private entrance and car parking for approximately 800 cars.
The Ciúin Spa at Slieve Russell features 13 treatment rooms, and the Slieve Russell Country Club facilities include a 20-metre pool, a jacuzzi steam room, a sauna, and a fitness suite.
“This was a tremendous sale to be involved in,” said Paul Collins, head of CBRE Hotels Ireland. “We had considerable interest from both domestic and international investors, and while the ultimate buyer is an Australian company, they have extremely strong Cavan connections.”
The Slieve Russell Hotel features an acclaimed 18-hole championship course, a nine-hole par-three academy course, a three-bay floodlit driving range, a putting green and a practice area.
The championship par-72 course, measuring over 7,000 yards, was designed by the renowned golf architect Patrick Merrigan and is one of just eight designated PGA National resorts in the world.
“The Slieve Russell will continue to be run by a local team who are doing an excellent job,” said Tony Brady. “Slieve Russell employs hundreds of people locally, both full and part time, and it is an important part of the community.”
