Discount 'Artist Hotel' Opens In London

A new low-cost hotel in London, that will cost from jst £18 per night, is to open this month with the goal of providing an affordable place to stay for visiting artists.

The Green Rooms Hotel aims to be a creative space, allowing artists to perform in its exhibition area, as well as being a place for collaboration between different types of artists, from painters to thespians to designers, reports The Guardian.

The four-storey building, described as rustic, unpretentious and having a stripped back aesthetic, has 22 double rooms, 12 standard rooms, studio apartments, twp dormitories, a bar and restaurant. The latter will have regularly changing chef residencies and will provide a training facility for emerging restauranteurs.

Nick Hartwright came up with the idea for the hotel, having previous experience in providing affordable studios and workspace to London artists with his 'The Mill Co. Project'. He partnered with Kurt Bredenbeck, founder of The Hoxton Hotel, and received £9m worth of funding from London's Mayor's High Street Fund, an initiative that encourages local groups to develop community projects.
