People travelling within Ireland still choose Dublin as their number one location, despite a €22 average increase in hotel prices per night.
Research compiled by hotel search site trivago.ie revealed that, based on searches made between 1 January and 11 May for travel in July and August, the capital remains the most popular choice for Irish users this summer.
Tourists have not been put off by the 17 per cent increase in the average price of a hotel room in Dublin, now €150, compared to €128 in the same period last year.
The number two and three most popular destinations for people to visit, Galway and Killarney, have actually seen prices drop since summer 2014. Galway hotels reduced to €121 from €128 while Killarney hotels reduced from €131 to €120. The average price for a room in the summer of 2015 in Ireland is €120.
The reserach comes after trivago's Hotel Price Index released earlier this week showed that hotel prices in Dublin have lifted to an average of €167 this month, up 26 per cent from June 2014, which the the Consumers' Association of Ireland labelled "crazy".
Speaking about the research, David Lintott of trivago UK & Ireland, said: “Once again Dublin is the go-to destination for travellers from Ireland this summer, who evidently refuse to be put off by what is a significant average price increase per night.
Meanwhile, London remains the most popular foreign destination for Irish-based travelers, while Spain the most popular country with three destinations in the top ten.
