Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa, in West Cork, was named Ireland’s Leading Hotel 2023 at the World Travel Awards Europe Gala Ceremony, in Batumi, Georgia, on Friday 29 September.
The World Travel Awards aim to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
Grand-Final Gala
Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa was nominated alongside other prestigious leading Irish hotels and will go on to compete on the world stage at a grand-final gala event towards the end of the year.
The resort is located just outside of Clonakilty, in West Cork, and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and a Blue Flag beach.
Wild Atlantic Way
Its location on the Wild Atlantic Way means that guests can enjoy surfing, whale-watching, kayaking, and outdoor yoga.
Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa is also home to Ireland’s first thalassotherapy seawater spa.
The resort is Irish owned and has been operated by the O’Dowd family since 1998.
‘Best Experience’
“We’re delighted to be named as Ireland’s Leading Hotel 2023 by the World Travel Awards,” said Des O’Dowd, owner and founder of the resort.
“We were nominated in a very competitive category alongside hotels we really admire, which makes this award very special.
“Giving our guests the best experience we can is what drives our team and makes us want to continually improve and grow, and it is really fantastic to see our efforts recognised.”
Sustainability Practices
Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa was an early adopter of sustainability practices.
The hotel has been home to one of Ireland’s largest solar arrays since 2007, and this year it planted 3,000 trees in West Cork, to mark its anniversary.
