According to the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF), hotel occupancy rates currently stand at 23% for October and 12% for November due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
Call For New Aid
The IHF is calling for October's budget to introduce new aid to save jobs in the Irish tourism industry.
The Irish Examiner quotes IHF president Elaina Fitzgerald Kane as saying, "It is now 'make or break' time. Urgent and unprecedented intervention from the government is required to support tourism businesses and safeguard thousands of jobs throughout the sector."
Support measures that the IHF is seeking include a reduction of the tourism's industry VAT rate and an extension of the wage-support scheme.
