Hotel Construction Decreased YOY In Europe In December Of 2021, According To STR

According to hotel industry market data company STR, the number of hotel rooms in construction in Europe decreased by 7.6% year-on-year to 221,789 in December of 2021.

In a statement published on its website, STR said that the number of hotel rooms in final planning in Europe decreased by 4.9% year-on-year to 163,805 in December of 2021, while the number of rooms in planning increased by 4.7% year-on-year to 159,232 and the total number of rooms under contract decreased by 3.5% year-on-year to 544,826.

STR noted that Germany and the UK led Europe regarding the total number of rooms in construction, with 45,121 and 31,464, respectively.

Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa And The Americas

Meanwhile, the total number of hotel rooms under contract in Asia Pacific increased by 6.5% year-on-year to 941,880 in December of 2021, the total number of hotel rooms under contract in the Middle East & Africa decreased by 4.9% year-on-year to 236,132, and the total number of hotel rooms under contract in the Americas decreased by 1.0% year-on-year to 760,971, with the US holding most of the hotel rooms under construction in that region, following by Mexico with 14,020 and Canada with 6,856, according to STR's data.
