Galway's four-star Hotel Meyrick, part of Gerry Barrett's Edward Holdings group, more than doubled its profits to €582,792 last year.
The 97-bedroom hotel, which first opened in 1852, saw its staff numbers increase to 122 and staff costs totalling €2.39 million, reports The Irish Examiner.
Newly-filed accounts for the hotel's operator, MT Mono Trading Ltd, who also operate five-starred The g Hotel, show that the firm saw an increase in profits of 143 per cent in 2015. A source close to Edward Holdings said that The g Hotel is "making substantial profits" and that "business is good, occupancy is good and rates are good".
The group, which employs 500 staff making it Galway's largest indigenous employer, saw its sister firm KH Kitty Hall Holdings Ltd record a loss of €3.3 million last year.
