Former Quinn Hotel To Host US G8 Delegation

A Co. Cavan hotel formerly owned by Sean Quinn will play host to US President Barack Obama's delegation during the G8 Summit of world leaders at Lough Erne resort, Co. Fermanagh. In the past, the US president's overseas entourage to similar events has numbered up to 600. It is understood that the Gardaí have been working with American security agencies to make the hotel secure.

Following the collapse of Sean Quinn's business empire, Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, formerly Anglo Irish Bank, took control of the 4-star Slieve Russell Hotel in 2011.

While the golf club and country club will remain open to the public, all 222 of the Slieve Russell hotel's rooms have been block-booked for the weekend of the summit, which will be taking place from June 17-18. It is expected that the President himself will be staying at the Lough Erne Resort itself. Government delegations from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Canada and Russia will be represented at the G8 summit. The Russian entourage is expected to stay at the Clarion Hotel, south of the border in Co. Sligo.
