It is being reported that Failte Ireland is looking to take legal action against properties which are advertising as a hotel without being registered as one.
Regulations introduced earlier this year make it in an offence to advertise a premises as a hotel without being registered with Failte Ireland, reports thetimes.co.uk, as the tourism body looks to ensure minimum standards are being met by establishments across Ireland.
Failte Ireland has stated that properties wishing to register as a hotel must meet certain criteria. These include minimum room sizes of 12.5 sq m, providing food and drink, having a reception area, minimum room temperatures of 18.5C, while double rooms must be at least 14 sq m and all bedrooms must have windows.
The criteria doesn't include the requirement to have en suite toilets, televisions or telephones.
