Transport And Alcoholic Beverage Prices Increased Year On Year In February, According To CSO

Transport and alcoholic beverages & tobacco prices increased by 15.4% and 7.8%, respectively, year on year, according to the CSO’s Consumer Price Index for February 2022.

Monthly Changes

According to a statement published on the CSO’s website, the monthly price changes of transport and alcoholic beverages & tobacco in February were +2.3% and -1.2%, respectively, and the year-on-year price change for recreation & culture was +3.2%.

Main Factors Contributing To Annual Changes

Transport prices increased year on year in February, mainly as result of higher prices for cars, diesel and petrol, and an increase in the cost of services in respect of personal transport equipment, while alcoholic beverage & tobacco prices increased year on year in February as a result of higher prices for alcoholic beverages in supermarkets and off-licences, and an increase in the cost of tobacco products. Food & non-alcoholic beverages increased year on year in February as a result of higher prices across a range of products, such as meat, bread & cereals, mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit & vegetable juices, and milk, cheese & eggs, according to the statement published on the CSO’s website.

Transport prices increased monthly in February, primarily as a result of higher prices for cars, diesel and petrol, while alcoholic beverages & tobacco prices decreased monthly in February, as a result of lower prices for alcoholic beverages in supermarkets and off-licences, according to the statement published on the CSO’s website.
