Professional Irish dancers performed on the dance floor, and passers-by were invited to join in. It was a special kinetic dance floor, powered by the dancers’ footsteps.
The energy generated from the dance floor also powered a large screen that featured images of Ireland. Tourism Ireland’s aim was to bring a smile to the faces of Londoners and to convey the message that Ireland offers a warm welcome and great fun. Broadcast journalists and influencers were also invited to attend.
Judith Cassidy, Tourism Ireland’s acting head of Great Britain, said, “We’re kicking off today’s St Patrick’s Day promotions with our fun green dance floor in London’s South Bank. Our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of Londoners and to spread the message that Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun – and to showcase our rich culture and Irish dancing.
“Our St Patrick’s Day programme includes an extensive and targeted programme of travel trade, media and consumer activity, to rebuild overseas tourism this year. We are taking every opportunity to capitalise on Ireland’s heightened profile around this St Patrick’s Day period.”
