As the Republic of Ireland gets ready to take on Denmark later today (Tuesday November 14) in the qualifying campaign for the World Cup, Tourism Ireland in Copenhagen is taking the opportunity to capitalise on the high profile sporting event.
Tourism Ireland, together with Fáilte Ireland, invited a group of top Danish travel writers to come and experience Dublin and some of the city's visitor attractions, soak up the pre-match atmosphere and attend the game. With plenty of exposure and hype about Ireland through the media in Denmark right now, both qualifying matches have proved to be a fantastic opportunity for Tourism Ireland to highlight Ireland as a holiday destination. As well as the visit by the influential journalists, a busy programme of social media promotions over the past week has been highlighting special offers and lots of great reasons to visit Dublin and Ireland.
Aileen Hickey, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Nordic Region, said, “The match is a great ‘hook’ for Tourism Ireland to leverage, helping us to reach a wide audience of football fans – or potential holidaymakers – in Denmark. So, whatever the score later today, we are encouraging Danish football fans to come and visit Ireland in 2018, reminding them that it’s a great place to visit, where they’re guaranteed a wonderful experience and the warmest of welcomes.”
