President Michael D. Higgins met with the secretary general of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and his officials at Áras an Uachtaráin on Wednesday June 26 to discuss the vision and priorities of the UNWTO, which include social, cultural and environmental sustainability.
During their time in Ireland, the UNWTO representatives will also visit some of the island's most popular tourist attractions, including Titanic Belfast, the Book of Kells and Dublin Castle.

Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons commented, "Tourism Ireland is delighted to welcome the secretary general of the World Tourism Organization, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, and his officials to Ireland. The visit is an excellent opportunity to explore a range of global tourism issues, to reflect on Ireland's tourism success in recent years and to discuss sustainability as we look to the future."
