Twelve international tour operators from eight different countries – the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Belgium – visited Ireland this week to learn about Northern Ireland and the "Taste the Island" food initiative. They came as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI.
The tour operators itinerary included a visit to the Walled City Brewery and a food tour in Londonderry, as well as a chance to see rapeseed oil production at Broighter Gold Économusée in Limavady. The group also visited the Giant's Causeway and enjoyed a tour of the Bushmills Distillery as well as food tours around the Causeway Coast and in Ballycastle.
"Really Pleased"
"We're really pleased that so many tour operators took time out of their busy schedule to come to Northern Ireland and experience our fantastic food offering and some of the many things to do and see here," said Finola O'Mahony, Tourism Ireland's head of Europe. "Food and drink are vital elements of today's holiday experience, and our "Taste the Island" promotions around the world will raise awareness of Northern Ireland's rich food culture."
