Now in its fourth year, New Year’s Festival Dublin, an initiative by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with Dublin City Council and produced and promoted by MCD Productions, has announced a new and exciting programme of events to ring in 2018.
For the first time ever, New Year’s Festival Dublin has created two Midnight Moment events to countdown to 2018 - Liffey Lights Midnight Moment and Liffey Lights Midnight Moment: Matinee. Both events will be performed against the backdrop of the Custom House with the River Liffey taking centre stage.
The Liffey Lights Midnight Moment is an aerial and aquatic exhibition with a light show of over 100 aqua beams and spotlights. The free event will start at 11.30pm on New Year's Eve.
Liffey Lights Midnight Moment: Matinee, meanwhile will give families and friends of all ages the chance to ring in the New Year together. Entertainment will start at 6.30pm building to earlier countdown celebrations at 7pm. This event features aerial, aquatic and street acrobats, with performers taking to the streets, the sky and the River Liffey.
New Year’s Festival Dublin revellers can also celebrate the New Year at the 3Countdown Concert with Kodaline and special guests Hudson Taylor and Keywest, tickets for which go on sale this Thursday 26 October at 9am. Additionally, Dublin’s national landmark, the Spire, will be beaming light into space as the clock strikes midnight.
Keelin Fagan, head of Dublin Programme for Fáilte Ireland commented, “We have been working with Dublin City Council to ensure that this year’s festival delivers a fresh and exciting two day programme for all visitors whether from home or overseas. In particular, this year’s new Midnight Moment, a free spectacular, will help us to truly emphasise why Dublin is a top city destination to ring in the New Year.”
