Dublin Airport's new runway officially opened for operations today (Wednesday 24 August), according to a series of posts published on the airport's official Twitter page.
Preparing For Launch
A tweet posted on the airport's official Twitter page at 7.11 am this morning stated, "No stone being left unturned as the team carry out very final sweeps ahead of the inaugural flight on North Runway later today."
Length
A tweet on the page at 8.53 am detailing the new runway's length stated, "The new North Runway at [Dublin Airport] measures a total of 3,100 metres in length.
"To put that in context, that's more than 6 times the length of Dublin's O'Connell Street or 21 times the length of the pitch at Croke Park!"
Launch
This was followed by a tweet on the page at 11.50 am that stated, "We can confirm that the inaugural flight to depart from the new North Runway will be the 12.00 FR1964 [Ryanair] departure to [Eindhoven Airport]."
A subsequent tweet on page at 12.19 pm stated, "North Runway at Dublin Airport is officially open...
"Ryanair flight FR1964, bound for [Eindhoven Airport], took off shortly after 12 noon off 28R in a westerly direction.
"A proud moment for all of the team at Dublin Airport and daa."
