Killarney has been named the top destination to visit in Ireland by travel website TripAdvisor, knocking Dublin off the top spot for the first time.
TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice awards, which are voted on by actual travellers, are based on an algorithm from "the millions of reviews and opinions collected in a single year from TripAdvisor travellers worldwide," the website itself states.
The coastal Kerry town has been given a lot media attention in recent times, as the hotel market there thrives. Previously, TripAdvisor ranked two Killarney hotels in the top ten rated in Ireland.
Dublin, last year's winner, finished second, ahead of Dingle and Galway. The top ten are as follows:
Killarney Dublin Dingle Galway Donegal Town Westport Cork Sligo Doolin Tralee Meanwhile, Moroccan city Marrakech was voted the number one spot in the worldwide vote. Top tourist destinations London, Rome and Paris all cracked the top ten, however New York failed to make it for the second year running. The rest of the winners were:
Marrakech Siem Reap Istanbul Hanoi Prague London Rome Buenos Aires Paris Cape Town
