UK company Jet2.com will begin operating eight new routes out of Belfast during the summer of 2018, generating approximately 50 new jobs at the city's airport.
As reported by The Irish News, the popular low fare airline, which currently provides passengers with transport from the Northern Irish capital to several locations around Europe, has declared that it will be adding Antalya, Costa De Almeira, Crete, Madeira, Malta, Naples, Paphos and Rhodes to its list of available destinations next year.
According to company CEO Steve Heapy, "Jet2 and Jet2 Holidays will offer over 400,000 seats for Summer ’18 and that will deliver enormous additional choice for the Northern Ireland holiday-maker."
Heapy also noted that "the welcome expansion will come new employment opportunities. Up to fifty jobs spread throughout the airport will have to be filled, including ground crew, pilots and cabin crew which will mean £1.5 million in wages injected into the local economy."
The announcement comes three years after Jet2 declared it would be expanding its operations in Belfast to include routes to Prague, Rome, Gran Canaria and Zante.
