IATA Says Global Air Passenger Traffic Fell By 66% In 2020

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said that global passenger traffic fell by 66% in full-year 2020 while cargo demand declined by 10.6%.

Bracing For A Slower Recovery

IATA said that global airlines are bracing for a slower recovery as governments respond to new COVID-19 variants with more travel curbs.

"Downside Risk"

IATA director general Alexandre de Juniac said that new restrictions now pose a "downside risk" to IATA's forecast return to 50% of pre-crisis passenger traffic levels in 2021.

"Very Challenging"

The clampdown "could make even that modest outlook very challenging", de Juniac said.
