Fáilte Ireland and Sport Ireland are providing €500,000 each to support the Irish Open in Donegal next year as part of a three year government-sanctioned deal.
According to donegalnow.com, Donegal TD Joe McHugh revealed that Fáilte Ireland will also be spending additional funds on the promotion of Inishowen and Donegal in the run up to the launch of the event, which takes place between July 5 and July 8, 2018, and will be broadcast to over 500 million people worldwide.
McHugh commented, "Golf is one of Ireland's most significant tourist activities, with over 170,000 overseas visitors taking part in golf during their visit to Ireland every year, contributing in excess of €170 million to the economy. Fáilte Ireland is working to grow these numbers by targeting those markets with greatest potential."
