Statements
Commenting on his appointment, Kelly said, "As someone who was born with ocular albinism, I have a visual impairment. Throughout my life I have worked hard to see the world and now I am privileged to have the opportunity to work hard to help the world see the challenges that people with visual impairments and blindness face every day in their lives. I am proud to join NCBI and look forward to building on the excellent work of Paul Ledwidge, the board and the dedicated staff at NCBI who are transforming the lives of children and adults with sight loss throughout Ireland. As chair I am committed to ensuring NCBI becomes an even stronger advocate for people who are blind or vision impaired so all can have access to the same opportunities, rights and choices as anyone else in society."
Welcoming the appointment of Kelly, chief executive of NCBI Chris White said, "NCBI as the National Sight Loss Agency dedicated to supporting the 55,000 people in Ireland with sight loss, is delighted to welcome the appointment of Paul Kelly as our incoming chair. NCBI's foundation is its commitment to authenticity and having a Chair of Paul's calibre and standing with his personal experience of sight loss allows NCBI to live and breathe our mission and values.
"Teamwork and collaboration are cornerstones of what NCBI does and to quote Helen Keller, 'Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much' - with Paul as chair we look forward to doing so much more for our community."
