The shortlist for Fáilte Ireland's 2015 Tourism Towns Award has been revealed and it was a near-sweep for Munster towns.
The shortlist of ‘highly commended towns’, were revealed at the National Tidy Towns Awards in the Helix, Dublin, and the top ten are as follows:
Best Small Town
Adare, Co. Limerick
Ardmore, Co. Waterford
Clonakilty, Co. Cork
Kenmare, Co. Kerry
Lismore, Co. Waterford
Sneem, Co. Kerry
Best Large Town
Cobh, Co. Cork
Killarney, Co. Kerry
Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny
Tralee, Co. Kerry
With the exception of Kilkenny, all the towns featured are in Munster, with Kerry having the most nominations (4) and Cork and Waterford receiving two nominations apiece.
Westport and Kinsale shared the award in 2014, however neither town was nominated this year.
“This award is all about recognising those Irish towns and villages where the local community goes the extra mile to enhance their appeal to tourists,” said Paddy Matthews of Fáilte Ireland.
The two winners will be announced at a ceremony in Dublin on 25 November.
