Dublin Airport remains on track for a record year as 2.9 million passengers passed through the airport last month, an increase of 9% compared to last year, making it the busiest August in the airport's history.
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe saw an increase of 8% while more than 1.5 million passengers travelled to European destinations during the month of August. The number of visitors to the United Kingdom also increased by 13% to 926,000 passengers.
Transatlantic traffic to North America increased by 6% to 339,000 passengers, however flights to the Middle East and Africa declined by 4%. Domestic routes saw an upsurge of 18% and there was almost 707,000 passengers using Dublin Airport as a hub to connect to another destination.
If the airport keeps this momentum up, it will break its previous held record of 25 million passengers.
