Cobh in County Cork has been named the number two cruise destination in the "British isles and Western Europe" for the second year running by the Cruise Critic Cruisers' Choice Destination Awards.
The awards, which are based on reviews posted to cruisecritic.com, name the best cruise destinations for 2017 in 15 regions around the world. As reported by The Irish Independent, Cobh came in behind Amsterdam, which claimed the top spot in Western Europe.
Cobh's cruise traffic has been on the rise in recent years, with more than 60 ships and 170,000 passengers expected in 2017. These figures are up 40 and 41,000, respectively, from ten years ago.
Commenting on the awards, UK managing editor of Cruise Critic Adam Coulter said, "Picking a cruise itinerary isn't easy, particularly given the increasing number of amazing destinations accessible by cruise. Analysing first-hand visitor feedback of cruise destinations world-wide enables us to identify those they loved most, which is a true testament to their appeal."
Budapest was named the best worldwide cruise destination for 2017, with Dubrovnik and Villefranche being bestowed with the awards for best Eastern and Western Mediterranean destinations, respectively. Despite being Ireland's biggest cruise destination, Dublin did not feature.
