According to data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the number of passenger journeys on buses in Dublin taken during the week that started on 26 June of this year was 9% higher than the number taken during the same week in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Meanwhile, outside of Dublin in the week that started on 26 June of this year, the number of bus journeys taken was 11% higher than the figure recorded for the same week in 2019, according to the CSO.
Luas And Rail Journeys
In a statement published on its website, the CSO noted that there is no comparable 2019 data for the number of rail journeys taken during the week that started on 26 June 2023, but the number of Luas journeys taken in the week that started on 26 June of this year was 7% higher than the level recorded during the same week in 2019, and 25% higher than the level recorded for the same week last year.
Airport Passenger Data
Additionally, the number of passengers in Dublin Airport in June of this year was 0% changed from the level seen during the same month in 2019, and 14% higher than the level seen during the same month last year, with 3,218,315 passengers being handled by Dublin Airport during June of this year, compared to 3,202,409 during June 2019, according to the statement published on CSO.ie, which added that Dublin Airport handled 15,646,696 passengers during the first half of 2023, which compares to 15,437,900 passengers during the first half of 2019.
In June of this year, Cork Airport handled 13% more passengers than it did in June of last year, and its passenger number figure for last month was 0% changed from the level seeing during the same month in 2019, while Shannon Airport passenger numbers increased by 32%, year on year in June of this year, and by 10% compared to June 2019, according to the statement published on CSO.ie, which also noted that 3,776,092 passengers were handled by Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Knock airports last month, compared to 3,737,070 in June 2019.
The same statement noted that Ireland West Airport Knock was closed from April to June 2020 and from February to May 2021, Cork Airport was closed in October 2021, and Kerry Airport data was not available at the time of the publication of the statement.
