65% of adults in Ireland are planning to travel internationally in the next six months, according to new research from Aer Lingus.
Research Findings
In a statement published on its website, Aer Lingus said that 47% of Aer Lingus research respondents who are intending to travel said that they are excited just to feel the warmth of the sun again and 33% said that they will be heading straight to the winter sun.
44% of those currently planning a winter trip cited stress relief as a key motivation for travel and 33% of all respondents said that they would most look forward to a break from work commitments when they holiday next.
66% of respondents said that they have not left Ireland for a holiday since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
81% of 25-34 year-olds said that they are intending to travel abroad within the next six months.
39% of adults in Ireland said that they are most looking forward to exploring some new surroundings when they travel again, with 30% saying that they are itching to try new cultures and cuisines.
24% of those planning to travel soon said that they are doing so just for a new experience.
According to the Aer Lingus research, of the 65% of respondents who said that they are intending to fly abroad within the next six months, 17% will visit a Christmas market and 31% will go on a city break.
47% of respondents said that they will be reuniting with family and friends, and 11% said that they will travel to celebrate a missed milestone that they could not meaningfully mark during the pandemic.

Aer Lingus added, "Should plans change, Aer Lingus customers can also be safe in the knowledge that the 'Book with Confidence' proposition remains in place until 31 December, 2021, offering great flexibility to customers."
