According to new data published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the number of passengers that travelled through Ireland's main airports increased 4.2% to 38.1 million in 2019.
In the fourth quarter of 2019, over 8.5 million passengers passed through Ireland's main airports, which was an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2018.
Increase At Every Main Airport Except Shannon
The CSO's data indicates that passenger numbers increased at every main Irish airport in 2019 except for Shannon, where numbers decreased.
The CSO stated that it should be noted that Shannon is a fuel stop for many transit flights that are not included in the CSO's statistics release.
Ireland's five main airports - Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Kerry and Knock - accounted for 99.8% of all air passenger carried into and out of Ireland in 2019, with Dublin Airport alone accounting for 85.7% of all air passengers carried into and out of the country last year.
