New research carried out by Bord Bia reveals that fast food and takeaways dominate the €6.13 billion Irish catering industry.
The Irish spend €2.38bn or 38 per cent of our eating out budget in "quick service" restaurants and fast food is the fastest growing sector as customers watch their wallets.
By contrast just 11 per cent or €687 million is spent in full service restaurants, a Bord Bia conference in Dublin on the food service sector will be told today.
Maureen Gahan of Bord Bia said "the food service sector has continued to moderate improvements in 2014 with a positive outlook expected over the next few years".
