The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) served a total of 10 Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order in March.
Three Closure Orders was served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:
- The Millrace Hotel, Wexford (closed activity: all food preparation and service activities in and from the kitchen and ancillary stores and in the main bar and the store room at the rear of the main bar)
- Milebush Bar and Restaurant, Portlaoise (closed activity: preparation and service of food only)
- Fryer's (take away), Patrick Street, Boyle, Roscommon
Seven Closure Orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:
- Posh Nosh restaurant, Balbriggan, Dublin
- Craigs Fresh (wholesale), Raphoe, Donegal
- Carpenters Butchers (closed activity: the cooking and handling of cooked chickens in the premises), Kells, Meath
- Tamarind Thai Restaurant, Kerry
- Indie at Home take away, Swords, Co. Dublin
-La Boulangerie des Gourmets bakery, Finglas, Dublin 11
- Beachview Tandoori take away, Laytown, Meath
Finally one Prohibition Order was served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on Ahmed Foods, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15.
The FSAI was also successful in the prosecution of Kearney’s Castle Hotel in Cashel, Tipperary during the month of March.
“Food safety is of paramount importance. Unfortunately, inspectors continue to encounter negligent food safety practices and non-compliance with food legislation,” said Dr Pamela Byrne, chief executive, FSAI.
“There can be no justification for these breaches, which can potentially put consumers’ health at risk and undermine the confidence they should expect to have in the safety of the food they eat. This has serious negative implications not only for the individual businesses involved, but for the wider food industry.”
