Electric Picnic Founder Dublin Bar Plans Face Opposition

John Reynolds, founders of Electric Picnic and the former Pod nightclub, has faced opposition from a local councillor over his plans to build a new bar and music venue in Dublin 2.

Mannix Flynn, councillor for Dublin's South East Area, has appealed to An Bord Pleanala to disallow planning permission for the new venue to be granted, citing noise pollution as the reason.

The new business is to be opened on Dublin's Clarendon Street, a short walk away from Grafton Street, in a property formerly home to Da Club nightclub. According to the Irish Independent, Flynn has said it will add to already high levels of noise in the area that residents have to endure.

"It is submitted that there are already a significant number of bars and restaurants located in the vicinity … and that the insertion of another non-retail use will further diminish this important retail precinct," said the councillor.
