The Teeling Whiskey company has teamed up with Chinese distributor Summerage Fine Wines & Spirits to create a new oriental infused malt, reports the Sunday Business Post.
The Dublin distillery is importing wines casks from the Kanaan Winery. The single malt will be finished in an oriental cabernet sauvignon and merlot blend which last year won the Best Chinese Award at a Wine 100 event in Shanghai.
Jack Teeling, the founder and manager director of the whiskey company said that the product will combine “the best of Irish whiskey and the best Chinese wine for the Chinese market.”
The new innovative single malt will be made with affluent single malt drinkers in mind. “China has a new generation of global travellers. They have become more sophisticated in their tastes because of their travels and they want something other than mass-market brands” Teeling said.
It has been suggested that the new Dublin whiskey could be on the shelves in China by the end of 2017.
