The Teeling Whiskey Company has signed a gas and renewable electricity supply deal with Vaya Energy, valued at €250,000 per year and sees the craft whiskey producer supplied with natural gas and 100% green energy for its recently opened distillery in Dublin 8.
The energy deal allows Teeling Whiskey to make significant savings in energy costs by giving it direct access to wholesale market prices for both electricity and gas, while also meeting its environmental goals.
Vayu Energy will also provide it with procurement tools and advice to purchase energy, and a bespoke reporting solution to track the distillery’s performance in real time and reduce energy costs.
Jack Teeling, managing director of the Teeling Whiskey Company commented on the deal; “As a local craft producer, environmental sustainability is at the heart of our business model and expansion strategy."
“This is reflected in our partnership with Vayu which will help us minimise our environmental footprint by providing us with green electricity with a 100% renewable rating,” he added.
Stephen Behan, energy specialist at Vayu noted, “Environmental sustainability is increasingly a driving force for many Irish companies, particularly in the food and drinks sector.
“As result, we’re seeing growing demand for access to renewable energy sources as businesses look to reduce their carbon footprint and impact on the environment.”
This is not Teeling Whiskey’s first foray into sustainable production, having already installed a rainwater operating system in its Dublin facility, where it also uses an onsite well to reduce water consumption and excess energy created during the production process to heat its visitor centre.
