New data released by International Wine and Spirits Research has revealed that sales of spirits in the Republic of Ireland increased 6.5% to 2.4 million nine-litre cases in 2018 from 2.25 million the previous year.
Gin
The rise in spirit sales was primarily due to gin sales rising 31.8% to 324,000 nine-litres cases last year from 246,000 in 2017.
Sales of traditional gin rose 18.9% while flavoured gin shipments increased 438.4%.
Vodka and Whiskey
Meanwhile, vodka sales rose 4.8% in the Republic last year, with 786,000 cases being sold, and whiskey sales increased 5.4%, with 581,750 cases being sold.
